Chinese and Foreign Teachers and Students at Zhejiang Gongshang University Experienced Intangible Cultural Heritage Wuju: A Journey of Integration of Opera Art and Modern Technology

How do you pronounce this word? “Wu Opera, commonly known as ‘Jinhua Opera’, is one of the local opera genres in Zhejiang Province. This character is the Chinese character for Wu, read the fourth tone, 'wu'. Xu Lishu, an international student from Russia, looked at the Wu character on the screen and asked the interpreter. In order to deeply learn and understand cultural ideas of Xi Jinping, focus on the practical value of cultural ideas, promote innovative development of culture, tell Chinese opera stories well, and experience the infinite charm of excellent traditional Chinese culture, on November 1st, the College of International Education of Zhejiang Gongshang University launched a journey of integrating opera art and modern technology, from explaining knowledge of Wu Opera, designing Wu Opera culture, and appreciating micro films of Wu Opera. The VR exhibition of Wuju brought a unique opera experience to international students from multiple dimensions, such as immersive experience.



“Have you ever been to the Broken Bridge, West Lake? ” Chen Yubing, a fan of Wuju micro films, took the broken bridge of West Lake as her entry point to explain the development of Wuju in Zhejiang Province to the teachers and students present. I know, the teacher told us that the West Lake has mountains and rivers and beautiful scenery. This is the White Lady on the broken bridge. Lin Yali, an international student from Russia, excitedly answered after watching the clip of Broken Bridge in Wuju. Then, Chen Yubing led the WU micro film creative team to introduce Wuju costumes, Wuju headwear, etc., in which the famous performers in the micro film clips sang and played, which stroke heartstrings of everyone and won continuous applause from both Chinese and international students.



By wearing VR headsets, you can immerse yourself in Wuju Museum without leaving home! . The new experience of digital VR+ Wuju has taken  the Chinese and foreign teachers and students reach the peak of enthusiasm on their opera trip. Students on the scene rushed to try the VR Museum of Wuju in Zhejiang Province, which was brought by the Light Chaser Team of Marxism College of Zhejiang Gongshang University. The costumes in the museum are bright and beautiful, and I can see the patterns on the costumes up close! Tingting, an international student from Kazakhstan, wore a VR headset and shared her view. After hearing the introduction by Fang Wei, head of VR Wuju Museum, the students appreciated the integration of modern technology and opera art.



This is a very interesting and interactive lecture. I feel very honored to learn a lot about China's Wuju, I will definitely go to see a Wuju performance when I have the chance! This was the collective sentiment of the overseas students after the event. How to tell the story of China well, spread the voice of China well, showcase the language symbols of traditional Chinese opera, and integrate the essence of traditional Chinese opera culture into the life circle of modern youth, from the opera circle to the friend circle, from the Chinese circle to the world circle, students of ZJSU has always been on the way to assist in the construction of international cultural dissemination.
