On November 26th, the 2023 Chinese Delicacy Food Tour event, Fragrant smell of Shaomai, Bring warmth to Jiangnan Chinese and Foreign student’s food-making competition successfully held at Qingfeng Canteen. Shao Mai, is a type of snack made by steaming and wrapping the filling in a flour skin. It is shaped like a pomegranate, with a bottom like a coin. It is bright and crystal clear, with a lot of filling and a thin skin. It is fragrant and delicious, with the advantages of both small steamed buns and fried cakes. The event aimed to promote Chinese food culture and let more students know and love this traditional snack.
At the beginning of the event, the host introduced the origin of Shao Mai and the rules for this competition in detail. The students were all enthusiastic and ready to show their skills. Then, the canteen aunt patiently demonstrated how to make Shao Mai, and all the students present observed carefully, afraid of missing any details.
After fierce competition, the students from table 4、7、and 8 won the first, second, and third prizes with their excellent skills and shapes. Looking at their own labor fruits, the students all showed bright smiles.
This activity not only honed the hands-on ability of the students, but also made everyone aware of the historical and cultural connotations behind Shaomai, as a representative of the local customs and culture of China, and promoted communication and cooperation between Chinese and foreign students.
