Rooted in Zhejiang Gongshang University's strong business context, the School of Food Science and Biotechnology boasts distinct engineering characteristics and prominent disciplinary advantages. It covers a complete higher education system ranging from full-time undergraduate to doctoral programs. In terms of undergraduate education, the school currently offers three nationally-enrolled programs: Food Science and Engineering, Food Quality and Safety, and Bioengineering. Among them, the Food Quality and Safety program has been accredited as a national-level first-class program, a national-level distinctive major (Category I), and a key major of Zhejiang Province. It ranked 6th nationwide in the 2024 ShanghaiRanking's Ranking of Chinese Universities by Major. The Food Science and Engineering program is a national-level first-class program, a provincial-level first-class program, and a key major of Zhejiang Province. In terms of discipline development, the discipline of Food Science and Engineering has been designated as a Zhejiang Provincial Key First-Class Discipline (Tier 1 Priority) and a Zhejiang Provincial First-Class Discipline (Category A). It boasts a comprehensive academic platform, including a complete doctoral program in the first-class discipline, a postdoctoral research station, a master's program in the first-class discipline, and a master's program in Biology and Pharmaceutical Engineering (Food Engineering track). In 2025, the Agricultural Sciences discipline, with the research achievements of the Food Science discipline as the core support, ranked 1.35‰ globally in the ESI (Essential Science Indicators) rankings. In the 2025 ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, the discipline of Food Science and Engineering ranked 20th in the world.
