Important Anti-Drug Day Reminder
●June 1st marks the17th anniversary of the implementation of the Anti-Drug Law of the People’s Republic of China.
●June 26th is the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
CommonTypes of Drugs Regulated by Chinese Law
1.Traditional Drugs:
Marijuana,Opium, Cocaine, Heroin
2.Synthetic Drugs:
Methamphetamine,Magu, MDMA, Ketamine, Triazolam, LSD
3.New Psychoactive Substances:
Suchas synthetic cannabinoids, cathinones, fentanyl analogs, andphenethylamines. These substances have stimulant, hallucinogenic, oranesthetic effects similar to or even stronger than controlledsubstances, and are extremely harmful!
✦Be Wary of New Disguised Drugs:
Criminals are constantly changing their tactics, and the disguise of drugs is becoming stronger and stronger! For example:
“Intoxicating E-cigarettes”: They are not easily distinguishable in appearance from regular e-cigarettes, but criminals add ingredients like Etomidate to the e-liquid.
Using e-cigarettes containing Etomidate is equivalent to drug abuse.
Common Drug-Related Illegal Activities in China
●Ingesting orinjecting narcotic drugs
●Providing another person with narcotic drugs
●Smuggling,trafficking in, transporting, or manufacturing drugs
●Illegal possession of narcotic drugs
●Illegally producing,trading, transporting, or smuggling drug-making materials
●Inducing, abetting,or deceiving others to take drugs
●Providing shelter for other persons to take drugs
The Harm Caused by Drugs Cannot Be Ignored
Drugs not only harm physical health, but also have far-reaching negative effects on mental health, family and social relationships. It is illegal to take drugs.
●Physical damage:Drugs bring damage to the heart and respiratory system; in severecases they may lead to organ failure.
●Mental breakdown:Long-term drug use easily produces hallucinations, depression and other symptoms, leaving drug users depressed and losing confidence inlife.
●Breakdown of interpersonal relationships: Drug users tend to lose control of life,leading to academic neglect, interpersonal alienation, and frequent family conflicts.
●Violating the law:Taking drugs, selling drugs, or abetting others to take drugs bear legal responsibility.
Punishment for Drug-Related Crimes
●Expulsion from the University
●Fine / Detention
●Deportation
●In serious cases,the maximum penalty is death!
How to Keep Drugs Out of Our Lives?
1.Educate Yourself:
Learn about the harms of various drugs (such as nerve damage, addiction,legal consequences); attend safety lectures: the school health center/ international student office often provides free anti-drug courses.
2.Build Your Personal Defense:
Firstly,never accept cigarettes, alcohol, or drinks from strangers. Secondly,be wary of “energy candies” or “happy e-cigarettes” inentertainment venues.
3.Manage Stress Healthily:
Face setbacks correctly, use appropriate methods such as exercise torelieve distress (gym / campus yoga classes), rather than using drugs, or use school counseling to solve problems. In addition,ensure 7-8 hours of sleep in terms of daily routine to avoid stayingup late and reducing self-control.
4.Clean Your Social Circle:
Once you find that your friends have drug-related behavior, you should stay away from them and advise them to stop, and actively seek the help of teachers.
5.Know Legal Consequences:
The People’s Republic of China has zero tolerance for drugs! You should learn relevant legal provisions, do not participate in any drug-related activities, do not contact them, so as to protect yourself and your future.
6.Ask for Help:
Don’t be shy about asking for help if you find yourself or your friend are inclined to use drugs. The counseling center in our university and professional organizations in the community can provide support and help.
