2025-04-21

To help international students gain a deeper understanding of innovation, entrepreneurship opportunities, and career development pathways in China, the College of International Education hosted the“Chu Lan”Alumni Talk on April 19. Two distinguished alumni were invited back to campus to engage in face-to-face exchanges with current students and share their personal experiences of studying, working, and developing their careers in China. The guest speakers were Lina Maria Castiblanco Diaz (Colombian), founder of Hangzhou Lvyou Network Tech, and Ubayawarna Kanishka Sugeeswara (Sri Lankan), Technical Art Specialist at Hangzhou Qianju Culture. Drawing on their unique journeys, the two alumni delivered a highly practical and inspiring talk on professional development in China.

The event opened with a welcome speech by Xu Zhenghan, Vice Dean of CIE. She emphasized that the “Chu Lan” Lecture Series is an integral part of the school’s alumni engagement and talent development initiative, designed to build a bridge between alumni and current students. This particular lecture was also a featured activity of the “Bridging Borders, Empowering Futures” Career Development Empowerment Month for International Students in China. Focusing on job-seeking practices and workplace adaptation, the lecture aimed to encourage international students to better understand China’s employment landscape, acquire practical job-hunting skills, enhance communication and cross-cultural collaboration abilities, and actively integrate into the local job market, thereby laying a solid foundation for their future professional development in China.

Lina began by sharing her entrepreneurial journey of founding Hangzhou Lvyou Network Tech in China. She illustrated how she leveraged her cross-cultural background to align with the rapid development of China’s live-streaming e-commerce industry, promoting cultural exchange between Colombia and China. She encouraged students to embrace the opportunities of the digital economy and to utilize their multilingual and multicultural strengths to explore unique development paths in China.

Kanishka focused on his job-seeking experience in China and the practical aspects of applying for a foreign work visa. He provided a detailed account of his journey from graduation to successfully securing a position at a Chinese company. Highlighting key points in resume preparation, job matching, and interview communication, he also offered practical advice on the work visa application process, helping students better plan their career paths after graduation.

During the interactive session, the atmosphere was enthusiastic as students actively raised questions on topics such as how to improve workplace adaptability, what materials need to be prepared in advance for employment in China, and key considerations when applying for a work visa. The alumni responded patiently to each question, offering practical advice and encouragement based on their own experiences.

This lecture not only provided students with valuable first-hand insights but also significantly deepened their understanding of China’s workplace environment and relevant policy support. The CIE will continue to launch the “Chu Lan” lecture series, internship and practical training programs, and career guidance services to support more international students in pursuing their career aspirations and personal growth in China.
