Zhejiang Gongshang University is jointly built by the People's Government of Zhejiang Province, the Ministry of Commerce, and the Ministry of Education. Located in the beautiful city of Hangzhou, it’s predecessor is Hangzhou Secondary Commercial School, which was founded in 1911 and is one of the earliest specialized commercial schools in China. In 2017, the university was identified as a key construction university in Zhejiang Province, with Statistics and
Business Administration selected for the list of provincial advantageous and characteristic disciplines. In 2023, the university was selected as one of the institutions in Zhejiang Province's Double First-Class 196 Project, with Statistics included in the list of provincial top-notch discipline construction, and Business Administration and Marxist Theory selected for the list of provincial advantageous and characteristic disciplines.
According to the 2025 Comprehensive Strength Ranking of Chinese Universities by Wu Shulian, Zhejiang Gongshang University ranks 6th among finance and economics universities. In the recently released 2024 ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, Food Science and Engineering and Tourism and Hospitality Management rank 15th and 48th in the world respectively, making it into the world's top 50. The number of disciplines in the top 50 ranks first among provincial universities. The Business Administration discipline ranks 14th in China, achieving a new breakthrough. There are nearly 1,000 international students in the university, coming from 100 countries and regions around the world and distributed in 56 majors of 17 schools across the university.
Program Characteristics(Flexible Education System)
2. Students holding the new HSK Level 5 certificate can apply to enter the second or third year of study based on their scores in the entrance Chinese Language Proficiency Test. However, they are required to either obtain credit recognition or earn credits for the academic year they did not participate in through a exemption from course attendance but not from examination approach, with a total duration of 2-3 years;
3. All enrolled students have to take the entrance Chinese Language Proficiency Test. If students do not pass the test, you might either be downgraded or dismissed according to the test grades.

Program Syllabus
The major of Chinese Language and Literature (Business Chinese) is an undergraduate program taught in Chinese for international students. It is a featured major of our university's undergraduate degree program for international students, and is jointly cultivated by the College of International Education and the School of Humanities and Communication of our university, giving full play to their respective advantages.
Training Objectives
Based on general Chinese, with Business Chinese as the main subject, and taking courses such as China and International Business, Trade, Marketing, E-commerce, International Business Law, Financial Management, and Chinese Business Culture as the main courses, this major aims to enable students to master systematic Chinese knowledge and business knowledge, possess fluent Business Chinese communication skills, have profound business capabilities, be able to participate in and promote friendly exchanges and cooperation between China and their home countries, and become high-level professionals who meet the needs of the modern international society and can proficiently use Chinese as a business working language in a cross-cultural environment.
Training Requirements
Reach a Chinese proficiency level of 210 points in the new HSK Level 5 or 180 points in the new HSK Level 6. Have good listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities in Business Chinese, possess fluent verbal expression skills in Business Chinese, and have the potential for further study.
Master basic Chinese humanities knowledge, be familiar with Chinese business culture, have a comprehensive understanding of Chinese society, politics, economy, trade, history, culture, etc., and be familiar with China's national conditions and various policies.
Have the ability to proficiently use Chinese for cross-cultural communication and business communication, and have the ability to proficiently use Chinese to engage in business and trade activities and economic and trade cooperation.

Extracurricular Practice
The university will arrange social practice, company tour and research, reading reports or academic papers, internship, thesis and so on.

Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Seminar
The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Seminar aims to provide entrepreneurship thinking training and entrepreneurship education platform. The university will invite famous business executives to have innovation and entrepreneurship training seminars in each semester. Through close interactions and communications with business executives, international students are encouraged to learn more about China's companies, business and cross-border trade, inspire more ideas for innovation, continuously improve their professional accomplishments, and develop their professional innovative abilities.

In the fields of cross-border trade and e-commerce, the university- has cooperated with many top multinational companies, such as Alibaba, Netease, Geely Automobile, Wahaha, etc. to provide business tour and internship opportunities for international students during their study. Participation in Various Competitions
The university attaches great importance to promoting learning through competitions. It actively encourages and provides meticulous guidance for international students to participate in various competitions, including subject competitions (such as the Classic Recitation, Writing and Speech Competition), the Chinese Bridge series of competitions (Storytelling Competition, Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition, Dubbing Show), and other various competitions (Dream Journey in Zhejiang, Poetic and Picturesque Zhejiang, etc.), creating a strong learning atmosphere of competition and striving for progress.
Highlights of Outstanding Alumni
Since the major of Chinese Language and Literature (Business Chinese) began enrolling students in 2012, it has always been highly favored by a large number of international students. The number of international students enrolled each year has been increasing rapidly. Four students, namely MEIRIYANA LIM from the class of 2017, MANKEYEV YERMEK from the class of 2018, MAYER IANA from the class of 2019, and KENNY LIM CHING NGEN from the class of 2020, have received the Chinese Government Scholarship for Outstanding International Students Studying in China.
At the same time, the Chinese language and business capabilities of students majoring in this field have been rapidly and effectively improved through their studies at the university. This is specifically reflected in the fact that students have frequently won awards in Category A subject competitions, the Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreigners around the World, and other major competitions. Among them, there are 3 first prizes (achieving a historical breakthrough) in national Category A subject competitions, 1 second prize, and 4 third prizes; 4 first prizes (achieving a historical breakthrough) in provincial Category A subject competitions, 7 second prizes, 6 third prizes, and 1 excellence award. It is particularly worth mentioning that in October 2017, Aibota (from Kazakhstan) from the class of 2014 majoring in Chinese Language and Literature (Business Chinese Direction) ranked 9th among 2,000 contestants globally in the Chinese Bridge·2017 Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreigners around the World hosted by China Central Television and the Confucius Institute Headquarters/National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, and won the Excellence Award in the individual competition. The school also won the Excellent Organization Award (only 10 units globally), achieving a historical breakthrough. In addition, students have also achieved excellent results in innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, such as the 5th Zhejiang Internet + College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition of the China Construction Bank Cup, the 100 Innovation and Technology Competitions of Zhonghuamen Chuangjiang (Nanjing, Jiangsu), the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Technology Competition in Linhai, Zhejiang, the Yangtze River Delta Integration Industry Collaborative Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, and the Hangzhou Division of the First National Kylin Cup Cross-border E-commerce Entrepreneurship Competition.
